Introduction

Evidence-based practice is the practice based on the best available evidence and theory. Structural equation modeling (SEM) is a popular modelling tool in social and behavioral sciences. Some special cases of SEM are multiple regression, path analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and latent growth model. Researchers may formulate their models as equations involving observed and latent constructs. SEM can be used to test these models. Both cross-sectional and longitudinal data may be used in the analyses. In this workshop, I will introduce how SEM can be used to establish empirical evidence that can be used in evidence-based practice. Examples of various SEM will be used to illustrate the concepts.
