Introduction

Advances in scientific research are built on the accumulation of empirical findings. Similarly, best practice should also be based on the best available evidence from the empirical findings. Evidence-based practice is the procedure to apply the best available evidence on education and policy-making from empirical studies. Meta-analysis is the standard statistical model to synthesize the available findings from the empirical studies. In this lecture, Dr. Mike Cheung will introduce evidence-based practice and meta-analysis to educational researchers. Examples will be used to illustrate the concepts of evidence-based practice.
