Introduction

Part 1

The workshop is planned for you who are new to NVivo, a qualitative analytic software to acquire fundamental skill in various stages of conducting literature review, collecting data from various stakeholders, data processing and report writing of a research project. The software can process document in PDF, Word and Excel format if you consider to documenting literature (PDF), transcribing interviews (Word) and conducting survey (Excel). In the workshop, you will learn how to do coding first with no themes, how to link related coding as ‘Tree’ and ‘Nodes’ which will form parts of the emerging themes with the software.

Part 2

When analysing qualitative data, researchers can use an inductive or deductive approach to examining sources of data. Coding may allow you to formulate a framework or identify sources of evidence with respect to the approaches used. Categories emerge when individual coding is clustered into levels of sub-themes. To address research questions, researchers can further explore relationships between or within cases. The queries function in NVivo will allow researchers to compare cases with visual displaying related nodes, and retrieve matrix results with priority in table format easily. In addition, NVivo also offers an alternative approach to textual script analysis that provides fresh scope from the sea of data to provide an enlightened scope in addition to existing theories.
