Introduction

The evidence based practice (EBP) movement has always been about managing scarce resources wisely,  allocating them only for services of demonstrable worth.  Established first in medicine, EBP also became the standard of care in nursing, psychology, social work and public health. Parallel trends now are emerging in sectors beyond health, such as education and public policy. In her lecture entitled, “Interdisciplinary Evidence Based Practice: What it is, Why it matters, What you need to know,” Professor Spring will describe the emergence of the evidence practice movement, how different health disciplines have translated its methods and concepts, and practical implications for implementing interprofessional, integrated care. She will also discuss the shared decision making process whereby stakeholders can integrate research evidence, patient values, and resource considerations to reach practical decisions about health.
