Mediation generally refers to a process whereby someone not involved in the conflict (or dispute) assists those who are in the conflict by helping them have a conversation. The expertise that mediators develop can be utilized in a range of ways even if the people who are in conflict do not sit together to discuss. During this workshop, Professor Press will explore how mediators can use their expertise to help communities engage in order to promote better decision-making. Professor Press will highlight lessons learned from two community engagement processes with which she is currently involved to illustrate these points.
